It wasn’t meant to be like this. As you may recall, being already hairy of face, I decided to brew a Playoff Beer in lieu of growing a beard. The beer was brewed the day of Game 1 against St Louis and bottled the day before the 2nd Round against Minnesota began. The idea was, of course, to use it to toast another Cup, but of course that isn’t going to happen now. So I poured it all down the drain.

Just kidding. Here it is.

The verdict? It’s a nice, smooth Oatmeal Stout with delicate coffee and caramel flavours. The oats give it a subtle sweetness but the Tomahawk hops have leant it a bitterness usually assosciated with Dry Stout (and a bit of bitterness is quite appropriate for today!) At 4.4% ABV it’s not overpowering (as I have a tendency to make my Stouts!) but I think I’m going to resist the temptation to drink the whole 18 litres today. Maybe.

Will definitely repeat this experiment next year.. although another couple of weeks conditioning in the bottle would be nice, right Hawks?
