A couple thoughts on the concerns facing the Hawks. While organizational depth is nice, trying to win games with 3-4 rookies in the lineup is a recipe for disaster. In today's NHL a bad 2 weeks will put a team in a precarious spot. Last year should be that lesson. The Hawks were 15 games over .500 and still needed help getting in as an 8 seed. Marcus Krueger can not be counted on to come back. It's sad he was played at all after his concussion, but that's another deal. This team needs a center to play with Hossa, Sharp or whatever combo Q is juggling on the 2nd line and for whatever reason Dave Bolland isn't that guy. Kane could be but at great expense. I know they could use a Dman but the need for at forward is greater imo. They do have assets (love that NHL buzzword) to use, since most teams aren't in selling mode yet, the price will suck, it won't suck as much as letting the last week turn into 2 or 3 weeks all the while heading into the hardest stretch of the schedule and the subsequent drop in the standings. Then we can watch the truck with Detroit, Vancouver, San Jose/Minnesota & St. Louis steam roll past. Leaving the Hawks trying to climb out of that hole & likely being on the road in the playoffs. Kane works at C if they get a guy who can play legit 1st or 2nd line minutes at RW allowing the move. I'd be on the phone to Bob Murray, regardless of his insane statement "I want core players for my core players". That is false bravado for the fans (Kenny Williams anyone), in the end he'll get a package of prospects and picks. That's how is works. Do I dare dream of Ryan Getzlaf & poaching him in a down year? Well no, but Bobby Ryan isn't setting the world on fire even after they dangled him as a motivation. He isn't playing terrible either and a change to an up tempo puck control team on a line with The Captain might be just what the doctor ordered. In the end wingers are in more supply than centers and if Bowman can swing a deal for one to play on the top 2 lines at a better price than a center he can do so having the option to play Kane at center. The schedule gets hellacious from here. 8 of the 11 remaining games this month are against teams currently in the playoffs. The last game of the month starts a NINE game road trip that will have the Hawks in all 4 time zones AND as a reward for enduring those nine games doe they get a couple of days off? NO my friends they get to come home and play their 3rd game in 4 nights against the Blues, followed by Detroit 2 days later. My point? The playoffs have started and Stan Bowman is on the clock. Which I suspect is why we've been having the Hog show the last little while or at least hope so.

The first thing I heard driving home last night after the game was someone suggest trading Kane for Nash. Seriously the guy has a bad game, but TOTALLY redeemed himself! Only to screw that all up with the lazy penalty, so now he is to be traded!? I'm not much of a fan of his to be honest, but he isn't going anywhere so get over yourselves. He is one of 2 faces of the franchise, the yin to Toews yang. Those players don't get traded by the people that put them there. How many millions of Wirtz beer money is wrapped up in marketing him? I'd like to hear that phone call though :) "Hey Rocky, Stan here. I wanted to let you know I made a trade today. You know that kid that used to sleep in MY basement? The one in all of our commercials and advertising? Right Kane, what? Um yeah I see the door, ok I won't let it hit me in the ass" The only way he goes anywhere is if he winds up face down in a pile of coke/vomit/3rd option? in some 3rd world asian house of fun. Thailand anyone? Get this through you skulls. Patrick Kane is here to stay. The Hawks do have concerns, but where to trade Kane is less than zero on that list.
