I get that scoring is down, but what about pulling in some depth for defense? Can someone help out with the stats on how we're doing in terms of goals allowed?
I was just looking at that for my Saturday blog. We've played 18 games, more than any other team, so totals are useless. You have to use averages. We're at or near the middle of the pack in both goals-for (2.68) and goals-against (2.90) --- though that number is up to 3.20 over the last 10 games. Goals-for is steady. With nearly $20 million wrapped up in 4 D-men, and that number increasing substantially when we re-sign Seabrook in the off-season, they will be reluctant to bring in even a rent-a-player with any talent (and therefore a big salary) on the blueline. I get that. They are relying on Leddy and LaLonde in Rockford to develop and come into the 5 & 6 slots in the next two years. So I don't see any new blood coming to our defensemen.
I'll try to find the article in a little bit, but I read that the Canes are right up against their own personal budget for the year and won't be taking on any extra cap space. $8 Mil is a ton for a small market team to take on while trying to pay the bills.
